Don't Lose Sight

“Does it really matter?”

This is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately, in terms of friends, school, daily tasks, etc. Lately I’ve been analyzing different aspects of my life and trying to really prioritize things, so I’m not doing things that have no significance or benefit to this chapter of my life. In this analysis, I’ve been trying to figure out my “why” for things, really sitting down and figuring out the reason behind things that make me happy, things I add to my schedule, or even the people I have around me at the moment.

Why have I been doing this? In short, recently I felt like my focus was off. You know when you’re trying to take a picture on your phone and your camera is focused on everything EXCEPT the thing you’re trying to take a picture of? Same. This was my frustration. Things just felt so off to me, as if I was focusing on every other thing except the Main Thing. I’ve realized that on my phone if I just move a bit further away, then my camera can finally see where its focus should be. This was similar to what I did on my break. I realized that I needed to take a step back in order to fix my focus.

With this blog and on other platforms, it can be easy to lose focus by looking at what those around me are doing. There’s so many talented people my age who are on fire for God and are really using their strengths to bring Him glory! Don’t get me wrong, it’s truly amazing to witness, but at the same time, it was… intimidating in a way. Why would people want to read my blog if ___ has one too? What’s special about what I’m saying? Wow they have so many followers/subscribers/etc, when will I get to that level?  These were all questions that went through my head at some point. What God really revealed to me is that even though people may have similar talents and gifts, there’s still uniqueness to everyone’s craft. What God has for me, is for me and no one can take that away. As long as I set and keep my eyes on him, I cannot lose.

I encourage you to take time to think about why you do certain things you do. If you find yourself steering away from your purpose, ask God to get you back on track. Ask for clarity and wisdom. Give yourself time and grant yourself grace in that time as well. You can’t properly fulfill your purpose, when you’re not focused. It’s time to get back on track.

…And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith…(Hebrews 12:1-2, NLT)
