2024: A Year of New Beginnings

2024 has been a year of new experiences. I am honestly so grateful for how God has blessed me, even overwhelmed me at times, with new things. And because I know He has given me these gifts, because that’s His nature as my Father, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

end of an era ✨

(just my early 20s, not this blog). Today (October 31st) is my +1 aka World Kumam Day!

People often say that you become very reflective as your birthday approaches and honestly that’s so true. The other day I had some deep thoughts as soon as I woke up and was wondering where they were coming from. I didn’t really get anywhere with them, but was just surprised they came to mind on a Friday morning.

Have you ever done a juice cleanse? I don’t know much about juice cleanses so I don’t know how the food allowance works in them. Maybe it depends on the cleanse you do. However, help me ask your neighbor: is kilishi allowed when you do a cleanse?

transitions

Remember when you were learning how to write an essay in school? There was a structure for how to write the essay. After your first paragraph, you’d start the next with a transition word, phrase, or sentence. I recently read somewhere that transitions are like bridges connecting one idea to another or transitions can help the reader understand how all that is written works together. Can we also view life transitions this way as well?

2022 Recap Letter

I know by the time you’ll see this, it will already be 2023, but here’s a small recap of last year. I know that it’s been a while since you last heard from me, but I hope you’ve been well! I hope 2023 is a year that exceeds your expectations. I pray it’s one where you learn new things about God and your faith expands in a new, healthy, and comforting way.

6 Years

Thanks so much for being here whether you are new to the site, have been here since August of 2016, or anywhere in between. My prayer is that as you (continue to) go through this website that you leave with something to hold onto. I hope you find something you can relate to, something that makes you think, something that you needed, something that makes you laugh, something that encourages you in your situation, and most importantly I hope that you see Jesus here.

2021: How Was the Ride?

You know those restraints that you hold to protect you from falling off the rollercoaster? This was me holding onto my faith this year. At first, I would hold onto it gently. We were moving slowly, not too far from the ground. Things are okay. God and I? Good. Faith and I? Good. Jireh, You are what? Enough (purr). But the higher we went, the tighter my grip became. All rollercoasters have drops, but for some people, you never really get used to them no matter how many times you’ve been on one.

My Words for 2021

Whatever your focus is for 2021, I pray that it is aligned with His will for your life and God helps you and blesses you in your pursuit of Him and that area of your life! Praying this year is so much better than your last! Remember to always leave room for God to do what He does best! His ways are not our ways and His plans for us are much greater than anything we could make ourselves (:

I'll Still Bless You

I think it’s okay to say that you’ve experienced the most losses and the lowest valleys this year. I don’t think God is offended by it one bit. At the same time, I don’t think you should stop there. While it’s good to recognize the lows, we should also take time to remember the highs. The fact that you’re even here reading this right now is a blessing in itself; you can decide if it’s big or small. To prepare for the next year, I believe there’s a habit we all have to adapt and it’s looking at our situations as a whole. Because sometimes when we focus on one thing, we end up focusing on the wrong thing.

What's Happening in Nigeria? #EndSARS #SARSMUSTGO

I don’t know everything about this issue, but I wanted to share as much as I can, in hopes that it will help you get an understanding, if you’re unaware, motivate you to find out more on this, and also call you to do your part, if you feel so led. If you’re in the US, you can think about this in a similar way that we’ve spoken about police brutality in the US especially this summer, and just put it in Nigeria.

SARS is the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria. They’re a branch of the Nigerian Police Force that doesn’t wear badges or uniforms and they were designed to fight kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes alike. As SARS continued, it started to become something a bit different. They began targeting innocent young people across Nigeria.

Imagine having a close friend whose birthday is coming up and has been talking too much about a specific gift they want. You, being the good friend that you are, decide to make their dream come true! You go through all the trouble of getting that specific gift, saving money (because they have ~expensive~ taste), making sure it’s perfect- like literally just for them. It’s finally their birthday! You get the best gift box and do your best gift-wrapping! You finally get to give them the gift and all they do is say “Wow! Thank you!” and then just move on.

Words of 2020

I know that with a new year comes new things: resolutions, habits, goals, dreams, people, experiences, etc. And for me, a new year always means a new focus. My goal for each year, in general terms, is just to become a better version of myself. Of course, this can be done in many ways, so I usually have a list of smaller goals that add up to this one. If you’ve ever been in my room, s/o to you lucky few, you’ll see it on my wall, along with Scriptures and some other quotes/prompts I need as daily reminders. This helps me to keep my focus on what I desire for this year.

New Year, New Wine

If you’ve been following me since Day 1, you’ll know that this blog was created because I want people to know no matter where they are in life, they’re never “too far gone”. And I’ve always wanted to show people what I’ve learned/experienced as He is forming me into a vessel fit for the Master’s use (see 2 Timothy 2:21). So let this be your reminder that you may be broken, but you’re not tainted. God can use you for His glory. I pray this challenges you, even just a bit, to consider how open you are to being used by God. And if you desire to be used by Him, but not quite sure how that would look for you, let’s chat.
