Give Thanks
Give Thanks - Don Moen <— click to listen
Thanksgiving is my dad’s favorite holiday. He’s so fond of the idea that our government dedicated a day of showing gratitude. Every year, he says, “…but we shouldn’t just give thanks today. We should do it everyday.” I couldn’t agree more.
Give thanks with a grateful heart/ Give thanks to the Holy One/ Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son
Have you ever gone home one day and your family member said they bought you something and the thing they bought was not something you liked…at all. You may try to hide your face of disappointment, but too late! Your less than pleased “thank you” gives it all away. There are times when we ask for things from God and He gives us something else instead or what He gives us is not what we expected. And instead of us to be grateful that God even answered our prayer, we express some level of disappointment. We may not even say thank you. I love this song because it not only says to “give thanks”, but it says “give thanks with a grateful heart”. Our thank yous mean nothing if our heart isn’t in the right place. God may hear our words, but He also knows our hearts. He knows when we are being genuine and when we are not. In everything, we should give him thanks because He could easily not play a role in our lives at all. What we often fail to realize is that God doesn’t need us, we need Him. He could’ve just made us and then been quiet for the rest of our lives, but instead He orchestrates every single thing that happens to us. And for that, we need to say thank you.
And now, let the weak say I am strong/ Let the poor say I am rich/ Because of what the Lord has done for us
Oftentimes, there are things we take for granted in our lives: our health, the people close to us, our jobs, etc. until things are going wrong. It’s usually not until then we start complaining or ranting to God about xyz. I don’t know about you, but when things go wrong, my prayers/conversations don’t start with “God thank you for this but…..” We may say thank you when we are initially blessed, but what about after that? It shouldn’t take a blessing for us give thanks to God. There’s so much He has done, is doing, and will continue to do for us. We ought to say thank you daily for even the little things because, as we know, there are people out there lacking. But God has done so much for us. Our thank yous, our praise, our worship, our prayers are the least we can give to Him.
So give thanks, wholeheartedly, often, and remember what the Lord has done, is doing, and will do for you. He deserves all the glory. He deserves all our praise.
Much love always,
