A Representation of Him

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
— Ephesians 5:1-2, NLT

Lately the question: “Does anyone know you’re a Christian?” has been circling my mind.

We use so many different things to describe who we are. We may use our race or ethnic background, our religion, our age, or other things of that nature. These things we use are pretty much facts about ourselves. We wouldn’t tell someone we’re 23 when we’re actually 18, because someone along the line our behavior will show our true age. We wouldn’t normally tell someone we’re from South Africa if we’re really from Washington DC because when they ask about our culture, our inability to answer will eventually reveal our lie. We wouldn’t tell someone we’re Christian and not live accordingly, because that’s just…wrong.

People should know we’re Christians not just because we say we are, but also because of how we live. We’re supposed to be representatives of Christ here on Earth. We are called to love like Christ loved, to spread the Good News like He did as well, and try our absolute best to live the way God desires for us to live.

We do live in this world, but we are not of this world. People should notice something different about us and even though they may not  know what it is, it should still be evident.

The thing about being a Christian is that once people know you identify as one, they begin to pay attention. They look at the things you say, what you do in your free time, or even things like how you dress. The way we live may be the way others judge how Christians really are. If we’re not living the way we should be, then we are not being good examples and we’re feeding people a false image of Christianity

It’s important for us to always remember someone is watching us, and even if the people around us aren’t paying attention, God is. We should all strive to be the best representatives of Christ and through this, we can help lead others to Him, too!

Much love,
