"How's Your Heart?"
“How’s your heart?”
I think my friend Kayu (super s/o to Only Okay., don’t forget me when you’re famous) was the first person to ask this question. And of course my initial response to this was, “It’s fine,” but then I really began to think about the depth of this question and realized how important this particular question is. This simple question almost had your girl breaking down. I didn’t realize how many emotions I’d been suppressing until I was asked. It can be so easy for us to push our emotions aside so we don’t have to deal with them, then we make it a habit and never really deal with it.
Think about this: when you’re young as a Christian you ask Jesus into your…heart. To make your heart His home. The condition of your heart is vital to keep in mind. You clean up your house from time to time, don’t you? In the same way, it’s good for us to check the conditions of our hearts and clear whatever is blocking it from properly functioning. To find a place to release our emotions and deal with our feelings so that our hearts are not cloudy. If our hearts are filled with unnecessary things, how can we expect God to fill us up? And if we don’t take of ourselves, how will we be able to take care of those around us?
I decided to take a break because my heart and mind were filled with so many things that I didn’t want to deal with and it was getting in the way of my writing. I couldn’t find my words or complete my thoughts. But this past week, I prayed and spent time really trying to figure out with God what was really going on inside. And once my heart cleanse began, the words started flowing again.
As the quote above says, “A clean heart is a free heart.” Free to love. Free to be loved. Free for Christ to make a home. Take time this week to figure out the condition of your heart and take all that you’re feeling to God.
Much love always,
Kumam 💖
